Well, I repaired the soffit & secured it with screws ? … and trapped a raccoon in the attic!  But not to fret, he made his way down from the attic through the walls and into the house itself. He sauntered into the great room around 11:30pm.  ? I’m pretty sure that he was as surprised to see me as I was to see him. Linda & I were up til ~5am trying everything we could think of (short of trying to reach in & grab it).  Finally, with urging from the rather strong aroma of ammonia, the raccoon moved from under the bottom step in the family room to the counter behind the coffee pot.  After some coaxing with a witch’s broom (… in case you’re wondering, it’s goes with the witch’s hat & cape that is in the costume trunk for the grandkids), we trapped the raccoon in one of those grey plastic wastebaskets, covered it & threw it outside … rapidly shutting the door behind it.

You know, it’s really confusing when you try to figure out who (in the animal control business) can help you in the middle of the night. Apparently you have to call 1st to get an estimate.  Not sure if you have to apply for the loan right then or not. ? Wonder what the estimate covers … hmmm … the special clothing they wear, the special tongs they use to grab the beast, the traps, a trip charge & a premium because it’s the middle of the night … suspect it’s north of $500. ?
